Important Rules for International Students:

In addition to observing all rules and regulations required for all students, international students are required to observe additional rules in order to maintain good status during their studies in the U.S.A. The following are major rules applied to all international students:

1. Maintain full-time status; register on time every trimester.
(a) Requirements on full-time course-load in a trimester are:
Undergraduate students: taking at least 12 units,
Graduate students: taking at least 9 units,
ESL students: taking at least 18 units.
When a student takes a combination of degree and ESL courses, ESL course units are divided by 2 to be counted as degree-equivalent course-load.
When a student audits a course, the course units are divided by 2 to be counted as credit-equivalent course-load.
(b) Maintaining on-going full-time status: An international student must enroll full-time for two consecutive trimesters before being allowed to enroll for less-than-full-time course-load for one trimester.
(c) Due to the Immigration Service’s requirement for approved universities/colleges to report each international student’s registration status at the beginning of each semester in its online management and tracking system, each international student must register on time each trimester in order to maintain status. The online management and tracking program takes control of certain parts of the program and sets the student “status” flag based on semester dates.

2. Maintain good attendance records.

3. Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
An undergraduate student is required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0.
A graduate student is required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
An ESL student must maintain passing grades.

4. Report address changes to the NPU administration office.
When you change address, you need to update it either through the LRC online facility (on the “Student” records site) or inform the NPU administration office, and the designated NPU staff will follow the federal regulation to update your address information in SEVIS.
